Why I Started a Live Music Charity
In 2012, while performing with the platinum-selling band BOSTON, I observed how the audience was captivated and transported back to their youth by our classic hits. It was fascinating to see that even the most dedicated BOSTON fans were less concerned about who was performing and more focused on the live reproduction of music that evoked cherished memories and made them feel good.
During the tour, I had the privilege of playing live acoustic music for sick children at Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, California. These kids weren't familiar with BOSTON's songs, yet they genuinely appreciated the vibe and spirit of the music and the personal connection of someone singing to them.
Initially hesitant, the children's parents eventually approached me and shyly asked, “Could you come play for my child next?”
As I continued to meet and play for more children, I realized that the spirit of music and its emotional impact had a universal healing power that went straight to the souls of these unfortunate kids, bypassing the mind entirely.
Leaving the hospital, I felt uplifted, as if walking on air, and was struck by the inspiration to use music to raise the spirits of the most vulnerable: hospital patients, their families, and their loved ones.
This led to the creation of Harmony & Healing.
