Psilocybin mushrooms

Psilocybin mushrooms or hallucinogenic mushrooms ("hallucinogenic mushrooms" or "magic mushrooms") - psychoactive mushrooms containing psychedelic compounds which, when consumed in small doses, mainly cause disturbances in human perception, changeability of thoughts or mood, while maintaining awareness and minimal impact on memory or orientation, but rarely evoke real hallucinations.

By influencing consciousness, they make time, space, colors and sound differently perceived after consumption [2]. Visual hallucinations may appear, ie the person after consuming them may see things which are not really there [or experience things which are not there. Hallucinogenic mushrooms also intensify feelings and change the way you perceive yourself and your environment.

The term "psilocybin mushrooms", or the common name for mushrooms that affect consciousness, comes from a chemical compound, psilocybin, which is found in many species of these mushrooms.

It is a group of fungi that are not a taxa. What they have in common is that they contain psychedelic psychoactive substances that affect consciousness, can induce hallucinations and lead to the experience of the so-called psychedelic experience, or trip in English.

They are used primarily experimentally, long-term use is sporadic
Two chemical compounds produced by these mushrooms are responsible for the psychoactive effect: psilocybin (mainly responsible for the effect of the substance, which is transformed in the body into pharmacologically active psilocin) and psilocin (present in the mushroom in smaller amounts, and in some cases baeocystin and norbaeocystin [which considered to be less effective.

They do not cause physical or mental dependence. However, they can lead to panic attacks or anxiety attacks, which can occasionally be fatal. Long-term toxic effects include the possibility of the so-called flashbacks. Their use together with other psychoactive substances and alcohol increases the risk of side effects and unpleasant psychedelic experiences, the so-called bad trip and not recommended. The use by mentally unstable people, mentally ill patients or people genetically at risk of mental disorders may reveal or exacerbate such disorders, e.g. psychosis, and therefore is not recommended. It is absolutely not recommended to drive a car or to operate machinery after consumption, as it is life-threatening.
